Working in Town

This program explores what 1920s small town community life was like, and the job opportunities waiting a young entrepreneur!

“Working in Town” focused on the museum’s downtown business district and the opportunities kids would be exploring in the Roaring 20s. Should they leave the farm and become a barber shop, or open a grocery store? Jump into the latest technology and sell cars or work as a telephone operator? Or maybe be a teacher?

With four different activity stations covering 6 different businesses, students will have to analyze the choices and decisions facing kids 100 years ago, examining what strengths and skills might help them pick a purpose or career path. They will also think about the ways in which a community changes and evolves throughout history, how our choices can help our communities grow, and how their worlds may look different - or the same!
