Time Travelers

Experience a 1920’s summer!

Time Travelers is Shawnee Town’s living history program for children and families. Step back in time to the 1920’s and play catch with vintage baseball gloves, dance the Charleston in the “front room” of the farmhouse, and make balsa wood airplanes in honor of Charles Lindbergh. There were numerous reasons the Twenties were called “Roaring.” Come and find out a few! Activities are guided by Shawnee Town Interpreters in 1920’s attire.

Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. from June 18, 2019 - August 8, 2019.
Rotating Activities
Down on the Farm
Do laundry with a washboard and hang clothes on the line. Feed the hens and our rooster, Duke. Play yard games. Help churn butter and create buttery treats with soda crackers and veggies from the garden or churn ice cream by hand at the Hart-DeCaeny Farmhouse.

In the Garden
Plant heirloom seeds or harvest vegetables. Weed, sort seeds, and guess what seed grows into what plant. Wash and bundle veggies (free tastes!) and hand till garden rows with our cultivator. Color and fly balsa wood airplanes.

Goin’ to Town
Do a lesson straight from a 1920’s reader or look at how the world has changed on a one hundred year old map in the Harmony Schoolhouse. Take orders and stock shelves in Garrett’s Grocery Store. Bring your doll or teddy bear to the Bousman Barber Shop for a haircut or trim. Yes, really! Play vintage board games.

Special events and rotating activities including leatherworking, art, music, story hour, airplanes, butter churning, and ice cream churning, will take place each week. Check Shawnee Town’s calendar for daily details.
