Time Travelers

About
Time Travelers is Shawnee Town's living history program for children and families.

Tuesdays and Thursdays June 23 through August 6, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and Wednesday July 15 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Welcome to Shawnee Town 1929 and get a peek into the world of 1920’s Shawnee, Kansas! Time Travelers takes you back to a time when everyone had at least one chicken in the pot and five in the coop, washed clothes with lye soap and a washboard, and made dinner with vegetables fresh from their garden. The grocery store had plenty of flour and toilet paper, the barber shop was never closed for a pandemic, and school was definitely in session. This summer, Fisher Chevrolet Dealership and Murphy Service Station have just opened, so you’re in for a real treat! We are offering three different programs which rotate throughout the summer.

Little more than one hundred years ago, the world was recovering from the 1918 flu pandemic. This year, Shawnee and the world face a new challenge. We will meet it together and in the process, we'll show you what it was like to stay home in 1920.

COVID-19 We want your Shawnee Town experience to be both enjoyable and safe. Staff and volunteers will be wearing masks and practicing social distancing.  For your use, masks will be available at the Visitor's Center. Activities are geared toward a minimum of physical contact. We have activity bags with games and crafts that you can do on your own. Hand sanitizer will be available at each program. Call us, view Shawnee Town’s calendar, or check out Facebook to make sure an event is happening!
