In its second year, Shawnee Town’s popular series, History on Tap, returns with presentations about the centennial year, 1920, and the best of metro Kansas City’s excellent beers. We begin our celebration of the Roaring Decade, 1920-1929, with a look at how World War I dramatically affected every aspect of life in the early Twenties by Dr. Richard S. Faulkner, Professor and Chair of Military History at the U. S. Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth. Karla Deel, a local history enthusiast and founder and editor of SqueezeBox Kansas City, an online magazine dedicated to the history and culture of Kansas City, will follow with a look at 1920. It really was the year that made the Twenties roar – locally, nationally, and world-wide!
Callsign Brewery is a North Kansas City brewery founded by veteran, Steve Sirois, and dedicated to veterans. The brewery will bring several kegs of their various beers. Audience members are encouraged to bring photographs of family members who have served or are serving in the Armed Forces. We will have a special toast for them during the evening. Mr. Sirois would welcome featuring copies of your veteran family members’ photographs in Callsign Brewery. Bring them if you would like to participate.
