Life on a Truck Farm

Students will experience what their lives would have been like 100 years ago living on a Truck Farm in the Kansas City region!

Using four activity stations around the Farmstead exhibit area, students get the opportunity to participate in the chores they would have done, from hand-scrubbed laundry to feeding the chickens, sowing seeds in the garden, and sorting produce in the market shed. Don’t miss the historic 1870s farmhouse, where kids can experience a 1920s-style kitchen and dance to an original Grafonola record player! Garden and outdoor activities are seasonally-based and weather-permitting.

With this program, students can compare what their childhood would be like 100 years ago to their lives today, what it’s like to run a family business, and the importance of farmers to the local economy, Kansas City’s community, and the nation’s food supply.
