Romance! Chariot battles! Lavish sets that mark the Golden Age of Hollywood! Join us for a special showing of Cleopatra, directed by Cecil B. DeMille and released to widespread acclaim in 1934. A lavish drama profiling the Egyptian queen and her complicated relationships with Julius Caesar and Marc Antony, the film includes some of the most memorable scenes from DeMIlle’s career. Home on the Range: The Story Behind the Song  Sunday, May 1, 2022  Aztec Shawnee Theater  3:00 pm and 6:00 pm showings
Everybody knows the song... but do you know the story? Join us at the Shawnee Aztec Theater for a fascinating film on Home on the Range, the song with as dramatic a tale of creation as the western landscape it honors. The film will share the back story behind the original poem, “My Western Home” and the fight over authorship and legacy as it became a song with international recognition and acclaim. El Dean Holthus of the Home on the Range Cabin in Smith County will also share stories behind the production and the work of their museum to preserve the inspirational landscape captured by Dr. Higley’s poem. Admission to this event is FREE thanks to the generous support of the Rotary Club of Shawnee and Shawnee Town 1929 Museum. The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)  Wednesday, July 13, 2022  2:00pm Matinee, 7:00pm Evening Show
Swashbuckling heroes who enjoy camping in the forest – it’s The Adventures of Robin Hood! Cool off with an epic Hollywood Technicolor classic about the regal outlaw hero and his merry men of Sherwood Forest who take on usurping traitor Prince John and his mutinous minions. A 1938 Best Picture nominee starring Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland, the film won Oscars for editing, art direction and score by Erich Wolfgang Korngold. Enjoy a night at the historic Aztec Shawnee Theater with 1930’s Best Picture Oscar winner All Quiet on the Western Front. Set during World War I, the film follows battle-hungry young German soldiers with visions of glory quickly disillusioned by combat, which has turned into a hellish fight for survival. Kick off the spookiest month of the year with horror classic Frankenstein at the Aztec Shawnee Theater! One of the films to kick off Universal Studios’ Classic Monsters series in 1931, the plot follows Dr. Frankenstein who dares to tamper with life and death by creating a human monster out of lifeless body parts. The film, based on 1818 novel by Mary Shelley, released to both rave reviews and multi-state censorships, included Kansas – who only saw an edited version at the time!  Tickets are $5 and available for October 5th at https://aztecshawnee.com/movies/. A shocking romance unlike any other – you won’t want to miss a night at the Aztec Shawnee Theater with The Bride of Frankenstein! The sequel to 1931’s Frankenstein and a classic in its own right, the films our mad scientist as he is persuaded to return to his laboratory and create a mate for The Monster, but all doesn't go as planned.
