Experience a 1920s Summer!
Welcome to Shawnee Town’s popular summertime children’s program, Time Travelers. This summer we’re offering some old favorites such as feeding the chickens and doing laundry. In addition, you can play catch with vintage gloves, make kites and crepe paper flowers, do leather-working, sing some 1920s melodies, play marbles and try your hand at balsa wood airplanes in honor of Charles Lindbergh. Who knows, there just might be a Model A Ford car ride in your future!
Down on the Farm
Help make cool 1920s beverages June 13-15. In July, help make apple pies (July 5 & 6) and churn ice cream (July 25 & 27). Do laundry the old fashioned way with a wash board. Feed the hens and our rooster, Duke. Guess what their favorite food is. Play yard games such as horse shoes, croquet, and catch.
In the Garden
Plant or harvest, weed (it’s not so bad!), sort seeds, guess what seed grows into what plant, wash and bundle veggies (free tastes!) and mow the lawn with our 1920s lawn mower. It’s a far cry from today’s model! We’ll make kites and crepe paper flowers and color and fly balsa wood airplanes.
Goin’ to Town
Do a lesson straight from a 1920s reader or look at how the world has changed on a one hundred year old map. Take orders and stock shelves in the grocery store. Bring your doll or teddy bear to the Barber Shop for a trim. Yes, really! Shine shoes. Play on vintage board games (for all ages) and do a scavenger hunt.
Special events will take place each week, look for the color-coded dates and times! Check out our Time Travelers brochure, like us on Facebook, or call to find out what’s happening on the farm!
